Unlike the stock Calculator app on iOS, Calcularium is packed with advanced features that make it great for all kinds of users. Note that 3D effects require iOS 10 and AR mode requires iOS 11, which will be released by Apple on September 19, 2017.First on our list of best calculator apps for iPhone and iPad is Calcularium. It’s both a peek at what’s to come from Apple’s 3D and AR technologies and an absorbing way to kill some time. I highly recommend checking out PCalc’s iOS 11 update. The 3D and AR About screen sandbox is less so, but it doesn’t need to be because it’s just plain fun. The addition of drag and drop support to PCalc is truly useful. As soon as I opened the view, I felt like I’d entered Thomson’s private playground where the constraints imposed by developing a calculator app were suddenly removed giving him free reign to experiment. Nowhere is that more evident than in the app’s About screen. James Thomson is known diving into new Apple technologies and platforms in unusual ways with PCalc. There are also new and updated custom icons including one created by artist David Lanham of a panda eating a bamboo number 42. Drag an equation like 7 * 6 into the app, and it will calculate the answer. I also like that Thomson supports dragging into PCalc. Simply drag the results of your calculation into any app that can receive it like Notes. The app also supports drag and drop, which is handy when using PCalc alongside another app on an iPad. The 3D/AR About screen isn’t all that’s new in PCalc though. Image courtesy of Myke Hurley who has conquered PCalc’s stunt mode. The other icons toggle icons, calculators, marbles, dice, bananas, coins, and lights that you can toss into the scene individually by tapping the screen or dump onscreen en masse with a button on the right-hand side of the view. When was the last time you saw an About screen with its own settings? PCalc’s does, and with it, you can switch to a 3D rendering of a working PCalc calculator instead of the app’s icon and adjust several other interactions. The smooth animations, textures, and lighting effects are impressive, but there’s a lot more fun to be had.Īlong the top of the About screen is a series of buttons. When tapped, your screen is taken over by a 3D rendering of PCalc’s ’42’ icon that you can spin around with your finger. At the top of the Help screen, is an ‘About PCalc’ button. To access the About screen tap the info button in PCalc’s main view to enter its settings, then tap the Help button. Thomson has used PCalc’s About screen to create a 3D and ARKit playground that shows off what is possible when you combine Apple’s Metal APIs and ARKit. Still, you wouldn’t expect it to incorporate 3D animation or augmented reality, but that is exactly what the latest version of PCalc has tucked away in its settings. It’s available on iOS devices, the Apple Watch, and even the Apple TV. PCalc is an excellent calculator app that was one of Federico’s ‘Must Have’ apps of 2016. Even more fitting though, is that the app reviewed is PCalc by James Thomson. As apps updated for iOS 11 begin to trickle out onto the App Store, it’s fitting that the first of what will be many reviews on MacStories in the coming days features ARKit, which from all indications is a big hit with developers. 5/21/2023 0 Comments Dean markly dotMusicians that are playing acoustic live will need an acoustic guitar pickup to ensure they’re heard above the crowd and can match other instrument volume levels in a full band scenario. (Image credit: Future) What is an acoustic guitar pickup and how does it work?Īcoustic guitar pickups come in many different forms and the way they work is to amplify the sound of your instrument when plugging it into a PA or acoustic guitar amp. This could make it the best acoustic guitar pickup for beginners – also check our guide to the best acoustic guitars for beginners. Of course, if you’re on an even-tighter budget and need it for amped-strumming at the odd gig where a little hum is not too big a deal, you could save 20 bucks and go for the singlecoil Woody. And best of all, this Woody is humbucking sometimes the last thing you want when playing a delicate fingerstyle passage is 60-cycle mains hum in the background. The pole pieces are adjustable, so you can fine tune output for each string. The Woody is non-intrusive fit any acoustic with a soundhole radius between 3.85” and 4.1”. It looks good, too, with natural finish options including actual real maple and walnut that should complement a wide range of acoustics. Those looking for the occasional electro-acoustic solution for gigging will find a lot to like in the Woody. For a start, it's easy to install and similarly easy to remove. Unfortunately the NC-1 is currently only available in the US, but is still a fantastic option for anyone who wants an extra special acoustic pickup.Īs a fuss-free, wallet-friendly option, this hum-cancelling option from the Californian pickup titans is hard to beat. It’s lightweight and compact too, so your picking hand can carry on doing its thing without worry. It’s also designed to have perfect string balance and volume with bronze or phosphor bronze strings, hence the lack of adjustable polepieces, or the need for specific NC-1-friendly strings. The NC-1 is specifically voiced and EQ’d like a microphone to emphasize your guitar’s pure, natural acoustic tone. The two CR2032 batteries have up to 1,000 hours of life in them and with two bright LED indicator lights, you’ll never get caught off guard with a dead battery. It’s got a 6V active preamp that supplies the necessary power to suppress any extra noise and feedback, so it’s great for live work as well as for use in the studio. The Quiet Coil NC-1 is, as the name suggests, noise cancelling. Mojotone has apparently “solved the soundhole pickup problem”, and we think they’ve got quite a persuasive argument. Mojotone’s Quiet Coil NC-1 is a fantastic option for anyone who’s sick of acoustic pickups changing the personality of their instrument. There is also a battery check feature, too, so you know you’ve got enough juice to get through a show. The soundhole preamp is discretely mounted and gives you control over volume, phase inversion, mic trim and mix, the latter letting you dial in the right amount of low-end from the element pickup. It is noise-cancelling and has a flatter frequency response that is responsive to your instrument. The mic performs just as a studio mic would. The Anthem system positions a piezo-style Element pickup under the saddle and combines it with a condenser mic that’s mounted 3mm from the underside of the bridge plate. There is none of that thwacky artificiality that you sometimes get with acoustic pickups. It’s not cheap, but nor is it prohibitively expensive, and if you are serious about your tone and need a pickup option for the stage or studio, this is it. It is used by the likes of Jake Bugg and Marcus King, and perhaps should be considered the industry standard. Once again, when it comes to the best acoustic guitar pickups it’s nigh-on impossible to see past LR Baggs Anthem pickup and microphone setup. Using a mixture of pickup types with the traditional piezo kind and LR Baggs’ True-Mic technology, it captures the entire dynamic range of your acoustic, delivering epic guitar tones. The LR Baggs Anthem (opens in new tab) comes as standard on many top-of-the-range acoustic guitars, which is exactly why it takes our top spot here. Best acoustic guitar pickups: Guitar World's choice To see the best acoustic guitar pickups available today, keep scrolling for our top picks. If you want to learn more about acoustic guitar pickups then have a look at our buying advice section. It might be you want a more traditional pickup design so you can use effects with your acoustic, or perhaps you’re not a fan of the sound of your already installed piezo pickup and want something that better translates your unplugged tone through a PA or acoustic guitar amp. There are multiple reasons you would want to add an acoustic pickup, even if you already own an electro-acoustic guitar, so we’ve put together this list of the best out there so you can pick out the best one for you. 5/21/2023 0 Comments Almost my floor reviewInternational Certified Floorcovering Installers Association, Inc. 5/21/2023 0 Comments Sol cryptoNodes can stake (or lock) SOL tokens in order to take part in governance and improve their chances of being selected to create blocks. Though it also serves as a governance token. Essentially, the main purpose of SOL is to be a payment method for transaction fees. What Is SOL?Īs mentioned before, SOL is the native token of the Solana blockchain. Soon after, Raj Gokal and Stephen Akridge joined the endeavor, and the four of them launched Solana blockchain in March 2020. Together with Greg Fitzgerald, Yakovenko founded the Solana Labs project. He firstly released a whitepaper that described the new Proof-of-History consensus mechanism. The story of Solana began in 2017 when Anatoly Yakovenko started constructing the network. Besides, it drastically reduces the amount of time needed to validate a transaction or a smart contract. A strategy like this cuts down on the amount of time needed to stop other participants from producing identical blocks. Thus, the timestamp on each block can be reliably checked and verified because of this unique consensus mechanism used by Solana. Each block sequence that is generated by the PoH processes is then validated by PoS, which is utilized as a monitoring tool for those operations. Verifying that event A occurred prior to event B is all that is required. The time-based consensus method does not require confirmation of a transaction by all network nodes. It’s responsible for transaction processing.Įssentially, PoH records successfully completed operations and the interval between them. The protocol's structure ensures scalability and quick processing while maintaining low transaction costs. PoH was developed by the founder of the Solana himself – Anatoly Yakovenko. Though, essentially, Proof-of-History could be simply perceived as an improved version of Proof-of-Stake. It also incorporates the well-known Proof-of-Stake (PoS) mechanism. Solana network employs a unique consensus model created specifically for the Solana blockchain that is called Proof-of-History (PoH). Ethereum can handle 40 transactions per second while Solana can handle up to almost 70,000 transactions per that same second. It’s like an alternative to Ethereum that offers more advanced scalability features and extremely fast transaction speeds. In essence, Solana is really similar to Ethereum. Take a look at the Solana price chart above to see the current SOL price. The main functionality of Solana is the creation of decentralized applications (dApps), smart contracts, and other projects. And just this week, the creator of two of the most popular Solana NFT projects- DeGods and y00ts -said that they will be bridged to Ethereum and Polygon, respectively, due in part to feeling constrained by the declining Solana ecosystem.Solana is an open-source blockchain that has an especially high throughput. The blockchain platform has also weathered technical challenges in 2022, with multiple periods of network downtime. When FTX collapsed in November, the entire cryptocurrency market took a hit-but Solana was battered more significantly than other major coins, shedding much more value as the close association with Bankman-Fried and his companies appeared to take a toll on Solana. Both firms had invested heavily in SOL and the Solana ecosystem, and Sam Bankman-Fried -the well-known co-founder of both companies-was an outspoken advocate of Solana. The most pressing, of course, was the downfall of FTX and Alameda Research. However, the once-soaring cryptocurrency-which Decrypt named its coin of the year in 2021 following a surge in value and chain activity-has faced a string of challenges this year. Solana fell sharply this afternoon, shedding more than a dollar of value with no single apparent cause at present. It’s the only coin in the top 100 that has posted a double-digit percentage loss today. Solana had until recently been ranked in the top 10, and its market cap peaked above $76 billion in November 2021. As of this writing, Solana is ranked 22nd on the platform's market tracker. Overall, Solana has lost nearly 97% of its value since peaking near $260 in November 2021, and the coin is down over 95% since the start of 2022.ĭue to the decline in price, Solana has fallen out of CoinGecko’s top 20 cryptocurrencies, as its market cap has dipped to just over $3 billion in total. That brings its seven-day drop to nearly 32%, and two-week decline to 41%. Even at the slightly rebounded price of $8.30 as of this writing, SOL is now down 16% over the past day. 5/21/2023 0 Comments Losslesscut redditImport/export segments: MP4/MKV chapter marks, Text file, YouTube, CSV, CUE, XML (DaVinci, Final Cut Pro) and more.View FFmpeg last command log so you can modify and re-run recent commands on the command line.Saves per project cut segments to project file.Timeline zoom and frame/keyframe jumping for cutting around keyframes.Change rotation/orientation metadata in videos.Edit file metadata, per-track metadata and per-track disposition.Apply a per-file timecode offset (and auto load timecode from file).Optionally include original timestamps in image file names.Export only from a selected time range (segment).Export ranges of video frames to images (every nth frame, second, by scene change, best thumbnails).Take full-resolution snapshots from videos in JPEG/PNG format (low or high quality).Losslessly remux video/audio into a different container (file) format.Fast multi-file workflow (note: no mass/batch export yet).Extract all tracks from a file (extract video, audio, subtitle, attachments and other tracks from one file into separate files).add music or subtitle track to a video file) Combine arbitrary tracks from multiple files (ex.Lossless merge/concatenation of arbitrary files (with identical codecs parameters, e.g.Losslessly rearrange the order of video/audio segments.Losslessly cut out parts of video/audio (for cutting away commercials etc.).Lossless cutting of most video and audio formats.Everything is extremely fast because it does an almost direct data copy, fueled by the awesome FFmpeg which does all the grunt work. It's a good choice for users that don't need to interact with Tableau's complex features, but still need to interact with data in some way. Tableau Explorer doesn't have the advanced data management features that Tableau Creator offers, but it allows users to edit and interact with data in much the same way. Tableau Explorer is 42$ a month on Tableau Online and 35$ on Tableau Server. There are tiers that are a better fit for those employees. Many employees don't need access to all of the features that Tableau Creator offers. Many businesses that use Tableau only give Creator access to a few senior employees. That Tableau Creator account will serve as the 'core' of that business's BI implementation. Tableau Creator is the only tier that allows access to Tableau Desktop every other tier has to use the web app.Įvery business has to buy at least one Tableau Creator license. It's the most powerful Tableau tier it offers access to every Tableau feature that isn't specifically sold as an optional add-on. Below is an overview of Tableau's pricing structure with brief explanations about what each tier offers. Tableau has three different pricing tiers - Tableau Creator, Tableau Explorer, and Tableau Viewer. If a business wants more login credentials, they need to pay for them. One purchase of a Tableau license only gives a business one set of login credentials. There are a few reasons a business might prefer an on-premise solution, but in general, we recommend choosing a cloud-based tool.Ī ll of Tableau's tools are sold per-seat. Those that buy Tableau Server must implement it on their own servers or on a third-party cloud-based server. Tableau Server is Tableau's on-premise BI solution. Tableau Online is slightly more expensive than Tableau Server, but it saves on server costs and computing power. Tableau also does all the hard computational work. It doesn't require any on-premise implementation, and all data is stored on Tableau's servers. Tableau Online is Tableau's cloud-based BI solution. We'll talk about Tableau Embedded Analytics later unless you're specifically looking for an embedded solution, you'll be looking at either Tableau Online or Tableau Server. There are two main Tableau business intelligence products - Tableau Online and Tableau Server. The prices for these add-ons aren't posted on Tableau's site, but the fee structure is fixed.īefore a business buys Tableau, they have to decide which version of Tableau they'd like to use. While some may feel cheated that their basic Tableau experience doesn't include these features, it actually saves most businesses money to only pay for these features if they need them. Many of these add-ons only are really necessary for enterprise scale businesses. Their enhanced data governance features and their advanced server management features for on-premise implementations are only available as optional add-ons for an additional fee. Some of Tableau's advanced features aren't included in the basic Tableau experience. Businesses can select the tiers that make the most sense for them, without having to negotiate an entirely new pricing structure. This helps their pricing to be more flexible, since there aren't just one or two one-size-fits-all solutions. Tableau offers a few different pricing tiers. Tableau's prices, on the other hand, are right on their website, meaning that potential customers don't need to do much work to find them out. At other software companies, a potential customer might have to explain their business and use case to a few different sales personnel before they can even start discussing the potential price of a solution. They're more transparent, meaning it's easier to budget out what Tableau might cost without speaking to Tableau personally. However, Tableau's flat rates have advantages of their own. Flexible pricing helps customers and BI merchants find the pricing model that works best for both parties. For instance, a large customer might be underpaying and not getting the support they need, while a smaller customer may be overpaying for a solution they don't need. For most BI businesses, flat rates aren't flexible enough to ensure that each company is paying the right amount for their tool. Many tools don't offer flat rates for their software, because customer needs vary so much in the business intelligence space. Tableau is one of the few business intelligence tools that advertises flat rates. |
